From monument to movement

Funkhaus Wien

The Funkhaus in Vienna is more than a place. An icon deeply rooted in Austrian identity. A house that has developed its own rhythm over decades – born from voices, encounters, and a continuous cultural dialogue that still resonates today. moodley has taken up this echo and created a new sound – one that carries and still leaves space for its own beat.

With the takeover by the Rhomberg Group, a new chapter began for the legendary Funkhaus on Argentinierstraße. The vision: to evolve the unique spirit of this listed ensemble into a cultural, hospitality, and living hotspot – and to open it to a new community.

Our task was to give the Funkhaus a clear attitude – strategically, conceptually, and visually. A positioning that doesn’t dissolve the tension between heritage and future, but consciously embraces it. And a brand design that draws its energy from exactly that balance.

At the heart of this transformation lies the architectural concept by BWM Designers & Architects: an open, multifunctional quarter – a “stacked Grätzl” – where living, art, and culture intertwine. A place that doesn’t exclude but invites. That doesn’t dictate, but creates possibilities.

The Funkhaus remains what it has always been: a meeting point. A space of resonance for creatives and the curious, who fill this cosmos with life. Compact and cohesive in its structure – yet boundless in what can emerge within.

The branding follows the same thought. It moves in rhythm rather than rules, in motion rather than state. Language and design flow together like beat and pulse – polyphonic, contrasting, open to what’s next.

This is how a house evolves without losing its story – one that doesn’t just offer space, but attitude. You can’t get the funk out of the Funkhaus.
